In the Wilderness

In the second year of our existence, we acquired two and a half acres of land through the kindness of Mr. Alcott McIntosh, and the same year through his association and work with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Bishop Hall had received a huge red and white tent with a seating capacity of 300 persons.

The building was far too small and the owners asking us to vacate; Bishop Hall challenged the Church to make use of the tent for 6 to 8 months – Undaunted and committed the fledging group forged forward.

Since the first phase of thee building had begun it was thought that our stay in the tent would be a short 6 months. Eighteen months later we were still under the tent-, which was very hard to maintain, and many who began with us walk no more. Several Sundays the tent blew down and we became the object of public ridicule and those unwilling to bear such disdain left the membership.

These were very trying times for the infant church and many times we had to be reminded of James 1:3: “Knowing this that the trying of your faith work patience.”

This land on the East-West Highway was prominently located in a community with endless possibilities for soul winning growth. With great enthusiasm we visualized our future Church structure and made architectural plans and excitedly talked about our plans at every opportunity.

It was in early 1987 while the Church was some 5 years old that we moved into the first phase of our work which is now our Basement and Preschool. The cornerstone for this first section was laid April 10th, 1988.

The Church motto: “A People Touched By God And Touching Others”- became the guiding light for its ministries.

Bishop Hall led the Church with mind tentalating Sermon Topics, Street Evangelism, Social Outreach; speaking at Crusades and Political Conventions- Pastor Hall used every opportunity to stand out in Church news and headlines.

His creativity and willingness to address social issues has caused him to always be in some controversy.

The Church, true to its original vision and mission, has literally touched every section of Bahamian life and the four corners of the world.

Bishop Hall’s evangelistic thrust has led to the establishment of the New Covenant Baptist Mission in Mitchell’s Plain, South Africa. This Church was pastored by John Daries, a very dynamic leader. Also, New Covenant Mission Fund makes it possible for assistance to be given annually to Pastor Louis Jacques’ Church and the people of Haiti.

Then everything changed and we were able to move into the "Promise Land"
