Articles of Faith
(continued)
-
ISRAEL: We
believe in the sovereign selection of Israel as God's eternal
covenant people, that she
is now dispersed because of her disobedience and rejection of Christ, and
that she will be regathered
in the Holy Land and, after the second advent of Christ
(Genesis 13:14-17; Romans 11:1-32; Ezekiel 37).
-
RAPTURE
AND SUBSEQUENT EVENTS: We believe in the premillennial
return of Christ, an
event which can occur at any moment, and that at that moment the dead in
Christ shall be raised
in glorified bodies, and the living in Christ shall be given glorified
bodies without tasting death, and
all shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air before the seven years
of the Tribulation
(1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 51-54;
Philippians 3:20, 21; Revelation 3:10).
We believe that the Tribulation, which follows the Rapture of the Church,
will be culminated by
the revelation of Christ in power and great glory
to sit upon the throne of David and to establish
the millennial kingdom (Daniel 9:25-27; Matthew 24:29-31; Luke 1:30-33;
Isaiah 9:6, 7; 11:1-9;
Acts 29:29, 30; Revelation 20:1-4, 6).
-
THE
RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED: We believe that there is
a radical and essential
difference between the righteous and the wicked; that only those who are
justified by faith in
our Lord Jesus Christ and sanctified by the Spirit of our God are truly
righteous in His esteem;
while all such as continue in impenitence and unbelief are in His sight
wicked and under the curse;
and this distinction holds among men both in and after death, in the everlasting
felicity of the saved
and the everlasting conscious suffering of the lost in the lake of fire (Malachi
3:18; Genesis 18:23;
Romans 6:17, 18; 1 John 5:19; Romans 7:6; 6:23; Proverbs
14:32; Luke 16:25; Matthew 25:34-41;
John 8:21; Revelation 20:14,15).
-
THE
LORD'S DAY: We believe that the scriptures teach
that Sunday
(the first day of the week or Christian Sabbath)
is a day of worship, and is to be kept sacred by abstaining
from secular labor
and by placing emphasis on the word of God both in private and public
(Exodus 20:8, Isaiah 58:13-14, Acts 20:8, Hebrews 10:24-25).
-
STEWARDSHIP
(TITHES/OFFERINGS): The bible teaches that everyone
with an income
should give systematically to support God's work on earth. The tithe is
not the goal but the
starting point in God. A sound doctrine of stewardship teaches that man
is a steward of everything
in his life, time, talents, and material possessions; that God is the source
of all, that He both gives
and owns them (Malachi 3:10-12, Matthew 6:1-4, Acts 2:44, 5:1-1l; 1
Corinthians 4:1-2, 6:20,
16:1-4, 2 Corinthians 8:9, Philippians 4:10-19).
-
WITNESSING: We
believe that as 'light' illuminates darkness and 'salt' preserves-
so we ought
to impact the society in which we live. We therefore commit ourselves to
sharing an active
testimony in such a way as to stem the tide of evil in our world (Acts
1:8, Matthew 4:19,
Psalm 126:5-6, Proverbs 11:30, Ephesians 3:1-11).
-
CHRISTIAN
EDUCATION: We believe that the spirit of excellence
ought to influence all areas
of our lives. That we should strive to be knowledgeable, professional and
a worthy example in our
secular and spiritual loves; believe that a constant hunger to know the
word of God,- its original
historical meaning, with a view to live it out in daily life is a true
mark of a maturing New
Testament Believer (Deut 6:1-10, Proverbs 3:12, 4:1-20, 15:14, Matthew
5:2-6, John 8:31-32,
Acts 17:11, Ephesians 4:11-16, 2 Timothy 2:15).
-
LEADERSHIP: We
believe that the fivefold ministry gifts are "offices" to
be respected, because God
put them here. God gave the vision for our church to the Senior Pastor,
who gives it to all other
officers and members who should commit themselves to the job of making
it come to pass. We
believe that it is fit and proper to honor the one whom God has given the
vision: with obedience,
prayers and material support, and this will give us the confidence that
God is at work in our church
(Exodus 3:1-10, 18:1-14, Jeremiah 3:15,
23:3-4; Ezekiel 34:23,24; Micah 6:41, 1 Corinthians 1:10,
11:1; Galatians
6:6, Hebrews 5:21-33; 6:1-4).
-
THE
SANCTITY OF THE HUMAN BODY: We believe that, in recognition
of our bodies as
spiritual temples, we should avoid the intake of any harmful substance,
and we should refrain
from the abuse of our bodies by food or beverage; always maintaining proper
diet and exercise
(Proverbs 20:1, 23:21, Habakkuk 2:15, 1 Corinthians 6:13-20, 9:27).
-
FAMILY: We
believe that the family- one man, one woman, is the God ordained
institution which predates
the church; that it is always better
for children to be reared in a wholesome Christian
family (Genesis 1:27, 2:24, Exodus 20:12, Psalm 128, Hebrews 5:21-33,
6:1-4).
-
WHAT
WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE BAPTISM1 OF THE HOLY GHOST: At
the point of
salvation Jesus Christ baptizes all believers with the Holy Spirit whereby
He brings men
and women into relationship with Himself and His Body, the Church. (Matthew
3:11; 1 Corinthians 12:13).
Believers are never commanded to be baptized with the Holy Ghost. It is,
in fact, the baptism
of the Holy Ghost which makes one a part of the Body of Christ.
-
WHAT
WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE FILING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: The
Holy Spirit indwells
all believers (Romans 8:14-17). Living the Spirit-filled life is
an issue of obedience for all believers
(Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:16-26).
We acknowledge that within the Body of Christ, the term,
filled with the Holy Ghost, is often used interchangeably with the term,
baptism of the Holy Ghost.
When referring to the controlling presence and power of the Holy Ghost
as a result of the submissive
will and desire of the believer, we allow such alternation of terms. The
baptism of the Holy Ghost
and the filling of the Holy Ghost are distinct, separate, valid, and valuable
ministries of the Holy
Ghost, which may occur simultaneously at salvation (Acts 19:2-6).
Subsequent to salvation, being
filled with the Holy Ghost should be a continuous reality and an ongoing
characteristic of the
believer's consecrated holiness.
-
WHAT
WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: We
believe in the perpetuity
and the continuing ecclesiastical value of all of the spiritual gifts for
edification of the believers and
the body of Christ until the end of the Church age which will be consummated
by the glorious event
of the return of our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians
12:14; Ephesians 4:11,12).
All of the gifts are equally valuable, but they are not equally distributed.
They are given at the
divine discretion of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).
-
WHAT
WE BELIEVE ABOUT SPEAKING IN TONGUES: We believe
that the gift of tongues
is a legitimate method of speaking to God. When used in prayer and in praise
tongues require no interpretation
(1 Corinthians 14:14-15). However,
when used as a vehicle to give a message from
God to the assembly, tongues without interpretation is forbidden (1
Corinthians 14:6-12).When
tongues are accompanied with the gift of interpretation, it is placed on
the same spiritual level
with the same spiritual value as prophecy (1 Corinthians 14:5). Tongues
should not be forbidden; tongues
and prophecy are to be exercised decently and in order (1 Corinthians
14:39-40). No spiritual gift, including the
gift of speaking in tongues,
is a mark of spirituality (1 Corinthians 13).
-
ABUNDANT
LIVING: We believe that when believers trust God,
they can expect spiritual,
material, mental, and social blessings; that abundant Christian living,
having sufficient to meet
life's essentials, is a direct privilege each believer has an obedient,
informed child of God
(Exodus 22:7, Deut. 8:11, 28:1-8,Joshua 1:8-9, Proverbs 22:24-259 30:19;
Eccl 22:6, John 10:10,
2 Corinthians 9:6,3, John 2).
- THINGS
TO COME; We believe that the end of this world is coming;
that at the last day, Christ
will descend from heaven, and raise the dead from the grave for a final separation
where the wicked
will go to endless punishment and the righteous to endless joy, and that
this will fix forever the final
state of man (Isaiah 2:4, Matthew 12:49, 25:31-46, Acts 1:11; Romans 14:10,
1 Peter 4:7,
Revelation 1:18).
IT IS OUR PRAYER THAT EACH ONE READING THESE ARTICLES OF
OUR FAITH WILL SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES FOR THEMSELVES
(ACTS 17:11) AND BY DONG SO- WITH THE GUIDANCE OF THE HOLY
SPIRIT- COME INTO A FULLER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WE
BELIEVE.
